    Es el municipio de mayor tamaño de toda la comarca de la Vera. El nombre Jaraíz es un topónimo de origen árabe, que significa balsa o estanque. El término de Jaraíz se encuadra entre las primeras estribaciones montañosas del macizo de Gredos y el valle del Tiétar, la depresión del Tiétar constituye una de las áreas de regadío más productivas de Extremadura. Las principales fuentes de ingresos son la agricultura, y en especial el tabaco y el pimiento para pimentón.

    La formación vegetal natural es de transición entre la seca penillanura y la húmeda montaña, alternando desde la encina hasta el quejigo, el castaño y el rebollo, junto a otras especies que componen el matorral, como la jara, madroño, enebro, cantueso, brezos, etc. Importante es también en La Vera la vegetación de rivera: alisos, chopos, helechos, etc.

    Es un importante nudo de comunicaciones con fácil acceso a lugares importantes: Yuste, Jarandilla de la Vera, Plasencia, Monfragüe, Valle del Jerte. A Jaraíz podemos acceder desde la A-5 por Navalmoral ( EX392) y desde la EX-501, así como desde el Valle del Jerte por Piornal.
